Lors de sa résidence à la Villa Médicis à Rome Philippe Terrier-Hermann réalisa cette galerie de portraits italiens fortement inspirée par l'histoire de l'art. En portraiturant un ministre berlusconien de pacotille, un ministre du culte ou un acteur de film érotique avec la même esthétique mêlant conservatisme, classicisme, fascisme et homo érotisme, Philippe Terrier-Hermann n'hésite pas à nous présenter des images volontairement surannées contrastant ainsi avec l’imagerie contemporaine. Mais à y regarder à deux fois, ces portraits contiennent un résumé du naufrage italien actuel qui cache, sous une belle patine, un système affligeant.
During his residence at the Villa Médicis in Rome Philippe Terrier Hermann realized this collection of Italian portraits deeply inspired by the history of art. By portraying a trashyberlusconian minister, a priest and an erotic film actor in the same aesthetic that brings together conservatism, classicism, fascism and homo eroticism, Philippe Terrier-Hermann doesn’t hesitate to present voluntarily outmoded images that contrast with contemporary iconography. But if one is to look closer, these portraits convey a present day Italy in ruin trying ever so hard to hide a distressing system under a beautiful veneer.,
